COMMON FOOT COMPLAINTS
Athletes Foot
This condition is a fungal infection and can lead to intense itching as well as cracked and blistered feet; the areas most frequently affected are between the toes and on the balls of the foot. It can also be found on dry flaking skin around the heel and mid-foot and is often prevalent on sandal-wearers in the summer whose skin has dried out and lost its natural oils.
Another common cause is placing damp or sweaty feet into poor-quality, non -breathable shoes - especially trainers.
Treatment
Change footwear on a regular basis and then sort out the fungal infection by visiting your local podiatrist or GP. Ensure your shoes are dried out effectively before wearing again. Make sure that socks are changed daily and ensure that the material of the sock is breathable at all times.
Creams such as clotrimazole and miconazole can be applied by rubbing into the skin and combat the fungal by attacking the enzymes on the fungal cell walls.
